Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation, aka BMC, is the governing civic body of Mumbai, the capital city of Maharashtra. Mumbai, the city of dreams for hundreds of thousands of Indians, provides unique, innovative and state-of-the-art experiences to all its residents.
One such experience is the Olympic-standard swimming pools located at four different locations in Mumbai. The BMC had built four swimming pools at Dadar, Chembur, Kandivali and Dahisar. But getting the membership for these pools was a headache. Who likes to physically fill out forms and stand in line to become a member? Nobody does, right?
The struggle to take a dive into the swimming pool was becoming never-ending. Until the 12Grids team jumped in and took the challenge to make an online portal that can easily help the swimming fans to book their annual memberships at these pools.
Challenge
The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation, also known as the Municipal Corporation of Greater Mumbai (MCGM), is the governing civic body of Mumbai, the capital city of Maharashtra. It is India's richest municipal corporation. BMC is responsible for the civic infrastructure and administration of the city and some suburbs. Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation was formed with the function of improving the infrastructure of the town.
It is one of India’s oldest civic bodies. Founded in 1899, the civic body has been working for the welfare of its citizens for over 130 years. One such experience that the governing civic body wanted to provide its citizens was world-class swimming pools.
To make this dream a reality, the body built 4 Olympic-standard swimming pools at four different prime locations in Mumbai; namely the Mahatma Gandhi Olympic Pool in Dadar, the General Arun Kumar Vaidya Olympic Pool in Chembur, the Sardar Vallabhai Patel Olympic Pool in Kandivali, and the Shri Mrubali Devi Pool in Dahisar.
These four pools needed a safe, secure and hassle-free portal that could help the Mumbaikars register themselves at these swimming pools. Designing and developing a website that could facilitate the registration process and handle the traffic that the website could generate was a tough ask.
Our Approach & Solution
The 12Grids team is known to tackle all kinds of challenges with ease. The challenge to develop a portal that could help Mumbaikars register themselves at these world-class swimming pools was well-received.
The team analysed the demands of the portal and accordingly designed and developed a fully functional website that can help any Mumbaikar to buy annual membership at the aforementioned swimming pools.
Result & Impact
The decision to make the membership process online was taken considering the busy lives of Mumbaikars that make it difficult to visit the swimming pools to fill in forms in person. Hence, making life easier for all Mumbaikars.
